This is my grandmother’s recipe. I hope you enjoy it as much as our family does.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon roux
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 clove garlic — chopped
- 1/2 cup onion — chopped
- 1/4 cup green onion — chopped
- 1/2 cup celery — chopped
- 1/3 cup bell pepper — chopped
- 1/4 cup parsley — chopped
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 1/2 pounds shrimp — deveined
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 8 ounces tomato sauce
- 14 ounces can tomatoes — diced
- 6 ounces can tomato paste
- 1 bay leaf
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- dash – hot sauce
- dash – cayenne
Directions
- Sauté garlic, onion, bell pepper, green onion, celery, and parsley in roux and olive oil until tender.
- Mix remaining ingredients in a bowl and add at once.
- Simmer for about an hour.
- Add deveined shrimp.
- Cook about 15 minutes more.
- Serve over rice.
